Why do left-handed people die younger?
The myth that left-handed people die younger than right-handed people came from two papers published in respected scientific journals in the 70s.
The academics who carried out the research sampled 2000 dead people and found out whether they were left-handed or right-handed. It turned out that of the dead people the left-handed people seemed to have died at a younger age.
This study was flawed however because in the past many naturally left-handed people were forced to become right-handed so when the academics were carrying out their research, many of the older dead people could possibly have been born left-handed but identified as right-handed as they were taught be right-handed when younger.
Left-handedness has come to be socially accepted in later times.
There is some evidence that left-handed people do suffer more accidents from using tools and other day to day apparatus as most of these are created for right-handed people.
The data says that between 70 to 95% of people are right-handed.
But other than that there is no real evidence to support the claim that left-handed people die younger than right-handed people.
So rest assured all you lefties out there!
