Colonel Saab launches a 6 course tasting menu
Colonel Saab - the popular fine dining Indian restaurant - has opened its new Trafalgar Square branch with a bang!
We went along to experience their new 6 course tasting menu and my word, what a treat!
Every course was bursting with unique flavours and combinations we’d never tasted before, all the while still staying true to everything we love about Indian cuisine.
Highlights included the Raj Kachori, a savoury round chickpea crisp filled with a delightful concoction of a mango sauce, a tamarind sauce and a coriander sauce. A real taste sensation and visiting Colonel Saab for that alone is worth it.
Another favourite of ours was the anglo Indian chicken chop, filled with succulent shredded chicken and served with a spicy sauce.
The main course is a thali and you can choose from a lamb curry, fish curry or a vegetarian kofta curry.
We went for the lamb and fish and both were delicious. The fish was served with a rich buttery sauce so if you’re not one for fish, I’d still urge you to give it a chance as it’s an excellent example of what can be done with fish cookery. The thali also included a delicious daal that we just couldn’t get enough of.
This branch, like the other Colonel Saab branch, is full of rich interior decor with antique pieces being shipped across from India itself. From the ceilings adorned with multiple chandeliers and the walls decorated with Indian art work, stepping into Colonel Saab is like stepping into another world.
Judging by how quickly all the tables filled on the Friday night we visited we’re not the only ones that are big fans and there’s something about dining in a restaurant, filled with happy diners that just adds to the experience.
This tasting menu is an exceptional example of Indian food at its best and at £80 per person, it’s very reasonably priced. The wine pairing, which we would also recommend, ups the price to £140 but we still think it’s well worth it.
