Florentine - our favourite Italian restaurant south of the river

A five minute walk from Lambeth North tube station is Florentine, a glamorous Italian restaurant that takes pride in its heritage and concentrates on high quality ingredients sourced from Italian suppliers.

The first thing we noticed when we walked through the doors was how busy it was. It's clearly a favourite haunt for many locals and a hit with the guests staying in the adjoining hotel.

To start your meal we’d recommend olives and warm, toasty bread.

The mains are standard classics such as beef lasagna, grilled sea bass and steak and chips.

If you enjoy the bonding experience of sharing food then we’d highly recommend one of the sharing platters on offer. The Tomahawk consists of a kilo of 35 day aged beef, on the bone, served with chips and jus. If you’re feeling adventurous you can opt for the Ostrich egg full english.

There’s also the delicious looking flatbreads that the table next to us ordered and we’re not going to lie, seeing it, we got a tiny bit of food envy!

The dessert menu is small but perfectly formed with Tiramisu, Crème brûlée and cheesecake all on offer.

There’s a generous drinks menu to choose from and we feel it’s the cocktail menu that’s the hero with a selection of fresh, tasty tipples.

The prices are set very reasonably with the most expensive individual main being steak and chips, set at only £21. For the quality of the food and plush surroundings you get great value for money.

A three course meal will come to around £80 - £90.
